Aston Villa have confirmed on Twitter (@AVFCOfficial) that Harry McKirdy has departed the club on-loan, with the forward linking up with Crewe Alexandra until the end of the current campaign.

McKirdy is yet to feature under Steve Bruce, but has made a positive impression in the Premier League 2 for Villa, making 10 appearances this season and scoring five goals for the club’s youth side.

The 20-year-old spent time away from Villa Park on-loan last year, linking up with Stevenage in Sky Bet League Two, who he made 11 league appearances for and scored once.

The youngster will link-up with Crewe in the same division, but with the club looking to climb the League Two table and pull clear of a relegation battle that could potentially loom.

Alexandra currently sit 20th, but are boosted by a six-point cushion to Forest Green Rovers, who occupy the final relegation spot in the League Two table.

As well as adding Villa’s McKirdy to their squad, Crewe have moved to bring Dan Barlaser to the club on a temporary basis, with the 21-year-old arriving in Crewe from Premier League outfit, Newcastle United.

The Verdict

Villa’s supporters will be pleased to see that Bruce and co at Villa Park are giving some of the club’s youngsters a chance to play regular football.

McKirdy isn’t getting near Villa’s first-team in their fight for promotion and another spell in League Two should serve him well for the future.

A transfer that could potentially work for all parties involved.
