There was great news for Aston Villa fans this afternoon after the club announced that Callum O'Hare has signed a new two-year deal at the club. The 19-year old has made a massive impression this season that has seen him force his way into the first-team squad.

O'Hare made his first appearance of the season against Colchester in the Carabao Cup and impressed significantly. That earned him a place on the bench at Cardiff next time out, where he came on for his league debut. Since then, he had been restricted to the cup again, where he played in the next two rounds, despite growing calls for his inclusion in the first-team.

Finally, he got some more league minutes under his belt last week, with Villa trailing 2-0 at Wolves and was one of very few bright sparks from the day. His trickery, direct style and ability caused trouble to the hosts defence and saw increased praise for the youngster. The new contract will top off a good week for him personally, and O'Hare will now look to tomorrow's game against Fulham to make it even better.

The Verdict

Callum O'Hare is a great prospect for Villa and he really should be in the team. Every time he has had the chance for Steve Bruce he has delivered, whilst reports suggest it has been the same story in the U-23s. The new contract is fully deserved and it will be a proud moment for the attacking midfielder who has been at the club since he was eight. Fans may wonder why it's only a two-year deal for such a talent, but the immediate focus will be on beating Fulham, where O'Hare could feature.
