Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Joe Garner, with the striker arriving for an undisclosed fee from Ipswich Town.

Confirmation has come late this evening from Wigan’s official website, who have confirmed that Garner has arrived at the DW Stadium on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old striker has enjoyed spells at a number of clubs across the EFL during his career, as well as spending time with Rangers, who he scored 10 goals for.

Garner really made a name for himself during his time with Preston North End, when in just over 150 appearances, the striker returned 57 goals for the Lilywhites.

A spell with Rangers came between his move to Ipswich, with the striker spending the last 12 months at Portman Road.

A change of manager at Ipswich has brought a change in personnel, with Garner amongst the high-profile names to depart.

During his year with Ipswich, Garner scored 10 Championship goals in 32 appearances.

The striker now becomes Wigan’s second high-profile arrival in the last few hours, following Josh Windass in linking up with Paul Cook’s squad.

The Verdict

Wigan have been conducting some excellent business throughout the late stage of the transfer window, particularly today.

Cook’s squad was already looking in great shape, but Garner is a really shrewd addition.

If he can find his best form, he could potentially be one of the summer’s best signings.
