Marcus Maddison announced himself to Charlton Athletic fans by inspiring his side's 3-1 win over Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy last night, which appears to have impressed many supporters.

Lee Bowyer named a much-changed side for the clash against the League Two outfit but saw his men take an early lead through 20-year-old Wassim Aouachria, who scored his first senior goal for the club.

Then it was Maddison's turn to impress as the summer arrival first delivered a probing free-kick across the face of goal for Jade Jay Mingi to nod in and next grabbed a goal of his own, racing forward and firing a strike in off the underside of the crossbar.

The 27-year-old proved himself a destructive player at Peterborough United – scoring 62 times and adding 92 assists – but left on a sour note and has joined up with the Addicks with his stock lower than it once was.

Last night he gave Bowyer and the Charlton fans a glimpse of just what a talented player he is and the sort of contribution he can provide moving forward.
