Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has been called up to the Scotland squad for the second time this season, which has drawn praise from many fans of the club.

The centre-back made his international debut in September in Scotland’s 2-1 loss to Russia in the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers.

Cooper has been called up to the squad again by national team boss Steve Clarke for the qualifiers against Russia and San Marino in the upcoming international break.

Scotland have struggled in the qualifiers so far and sit fifth in the group, with just six points from six games.

Clarke’s squad includes a number of other Championship players, with Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer and Wigan Athletic duo David Marshall and Charlie Mulgrew also getting the nod.

The Leeds captain has been impressive for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season, helping them to concede the fewest goals in the Championship.

He has been one of the players that has flourished under the Argentine coach and was named in the EFL Team of the Season for the 2018/19 campaign.

Cooper’s latest call up appears to have gone down well with many Leeds fans, who took to Twitter to congratulate their skipper.
