Colwill in: As things stand, is this Cardiff City’s best XI as 22/23 season approaches?

Cardiff City‘s 2021/22 campaign turned out to be a rather disappointing one.

Mick McCarthy started the campaign as Bluebirds boss, but after a horrific run of defeats, was relieved of his duties.

In came Steve Morison, who managed to steady the ship, but, ultimately, could only guide his side to am 18th placed Championship finish.

There were some bright sparks, however, with a host of young and talented players shining. Rubin Colwill, Joel Bagan and Mark McGuinness to name just a few.

With the Championship fixture list having been released today, which you can find on FLW, the 2022/23 campaign will be here before we know it.

With that in mind, here, we’ve picked out what we believe is Cardiff City’s best XI, at present, heading into the new campaign.

In goal, with Alex Smithies leaving the club, we think the best option for Steve Morison in-between the sticks is incoming goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

The back four also includes some new recruits, with Mahlon Romeo slotting in at right back.

Perry Ng and Curtis Nelson are the two best options at central defence, we think, whilst Joel Bagan just edges new signing, and somebody that could well occupy this spot, Jamilu Collins.

In midfield, a holding two of Ryan Wintle and new Bluebird Ebou Adams could be a nice combination, with Rubin Colwill ahead of them in a more advanced role.

Callum O’Dowda has reportedly been signed as a winger, so he goes in on the left, whilst Isaak Davies simply had to be accommodated, so goes on the right.

Up front, we’ve gone for James Collins due to his previous goalscoring pedigree at this level, but in truth, none of Cardiff’s options here are too strong.

Indeed, it could, and probably should, be an area that the club target for at least one transfer this summer.

Can you remember how much Cardiff City paid for these 22 summer signings?
