Coleman issues mixed Sunderland injury update ahead of Millwall clash

Chris Coleman takes Sunderland to the Den to face in-form Millwall on Saturday afternoon with the Black Cats four points adrift of Championship safety.

Jake Clarke-Salter’s reckless first half challenge in Saturday’s match against Middlesbrough will see him miss out against Neil Harris’ side and he will be joined on the sidelines by Paddy McNair.

As per the club’s official website, the former Manchester United man has a groin injury that forced him off early against Boro and will keep him out of contention for two to three weeks.

There is better news elsewhere though, as two January arrivals – Kazenga Lualua and Ovie Ejaria – are moving closer to fitness and could feature against the Lions.

The Verdict

Coleman is constantly looking for that formula to get the best out of his Sunderland squad.

Saturday’s game brought him two new absentees but two more are nearing the first team so it is just a constant juggling act.

Ejaria and Lualua failed to make an instant impact at the Stadium of Light but maybe they will redouble their efforts having been out of the side.
