According to the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has said that talks are ongoing to determine whether his club "absolutely need" the services of loanees Brendan Galloway and Jonny Williams.

Williams is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury while Galloway has not started a match since September. and as Coleman looks to prepare his squad for a relegation dogfight in the second half of the season, he is examining his options.

He said: "We are looking at what we absolutely need here to help us out. Brendan; boys of his age need to be playing. His development is important as well.

"Jonny has bust his shoulder and will be out for another month or six weeks depending how he recovers. These guys are not participating, it is hard for them to as they need to be playing.

"There will be a conversation and it is an ongoing conversation but nothing has been decided on any of that yet."

The Verdict:

Sunderland have been carrying passengers for too long and they simply cannot continue to do so as they face the very real prospect of back to back relegations.

If cancelling the loans of Galloway and Williams frees up money to bring in players who can get them out of trouble then they need to do that as a matter of urgency.

Sunderland fans - do you believe either of these players can help you get of trouble or should you send them back to their parent clubs and get players who can make a difference? Let us know below...
