Colchester United have announced the signing of ex-Braintree striker Dan Holman on a two-year deal.
Speaking to the club’s official website, U’s boss Joe Dunne said. “Dan is a player we have watched on many occasions over the past two seasons and we’re delighted we were able to bring him in.”
“He gives us another option in the forward areas of the pitch and has the ability to create and score goals for us.”
Holman has never played at Football League level before but has been heavily linked with a step up this summer. Fellow Essex side Southend were thought to have been close to the striker’s signature. The forward, who scored 13 times in 35 league appearances last season, was on trial at Roots Hall. However Colchester United have beaten their close rivals to Holman’s signature.
Colchester United now have signed four new players for the upcoming League One season. Defenders Ben Gordon and Sean Clohessy arrived on the same day as former Dagenham keeper Chris Lewington last week. Holman arrives as the club’s formal replacement for Clinton Morrison who left the club after the expiry of his contract on June 30th.
After finishing 16th in League One next season, Colchester are looking to push on for this upcoming campaign. They host Oldham Athletic on August 9th when the new league season begins.
