Derby County centre-back and captain Richard Keogh has suffered an injury setback during an off-field incident earlier in the week, according to the Telegraph.

Keogh suffered the injury during a car crash, after which teammates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence were both chagred with drink driving, with Cocu likely to confirm the news at his press conference later today.

According to the report, the 33-year-old has fractured his wrist and injured his knee although it is not yet known how long it will sideline him for.

Keogh has played every minute of every Championship match so far this season and his absence will undoubtedly prove to be a blow, not matter how long it is for.

He was also an ever-present last season too as the Rams made it to the play-off final, playing all 46 matches and all three games in the end of season showpiece.

The Rams have made a slow start to life under Phillip Cocu this season, currently sat in 18th place with eight matches played, with Birmingham City set to visit Pride Park this Saturday.

The verdict

Cocu arrived at the club in difficult circumstances, with last season's star men all leaving, and his spell has just become all the more challenging.

He must be absolutely livid with his players. This stupid decision looks set to damage their form even more and has potentially deprived him of three star men.

That being said, it provides a great chance for a fringe member of the squad to step up and assert himself in the first-team.
