Plenty of fans have reacted on Twitter to Danny Mills' admission that he doesn't believe that tonight's clash between Portsmouth and Southampton is a big derby game in comparison to other match-ups.

The two sides, who are currently separated by two divisions, meet tonight in the Carabao Cup at Fratton Park in what is expected to be an enthralling affair.

Whilst third-tier Portsmouth will be looking to cause a major shock by knocking their arch-rivals out of the competition, the Saints will be hoping to bounce back from their top-flight defeat to AFC Bournemouth last Friday.

With the most recent meeting between Pompey and Southampton ending in a 2-2 draw in 2012, victory for either side could help to kick-start their seasons.

Yet despite excitement building ahead of the South Coast derby, Mills has delivered a frank observation on the fixture.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Leeds United defender said:

"It doesn't stand out as the nastiest of games.

"It's just a nice little derby in Hampshire.

"Yeah it's a big derby there but if you are a football fan and you are thinking about going to some of the biggest derbies around the world, where on the list does Portsmouth versus Southampton come?

"I'd say at least page seven or eight before you get to this game."

Upon seeing Mills' comments, plenty of fans took to Twitter to fume at his lack of understanding of the clash.
