For the third straight league game it was disappointment for Sunderland as they were steamrolled away from home yet again - this time by Sheffield Wednesday.

A month ago the Black Cats looked very comfy at the top end of the table following a 5-0 demolition job of Cheltenham Town, but a 4-0 loss away at Portsmouth just days later has set the tone for an up and down last month.

Wins came over Gillingham and Crewe Alexandra on the road but nothing is ever quite simple with the Wearsiders, whose recent run of bad form started with a home loss against Charlton Athletic.

The most recent weekend fixture was more catastrophic though as a 5-1 thrashing by fellow promotion contenders Rotherham United really set the alarm bells ringing loudly.

And they intensified last night following a surprise 3-0 defeat to the Owls - a team who had winger Marvin Johnson playing as a left-sided centre-back.

The performance of Sunderland worried fans but what also concerned them were the comments of head coach Lee Johnson post-match, where he stated that the Black Cats put in a better showing than they did against Rotherham on Saturday afternoon.

His comments drew a strong reaction on social media and hardly any of them were positive - check out what fans were saying below.
