It's fair to say that it's not been the ideal start to life with Sunderland for Phil Parkinson, with his side suffering yet another defeat this week.

The Black Cats were knocked out of the Leasing.com Trophy after suffering a 3-0 defeat to League Two side Scunthorpe United. Luke O'Nien was sent off for Parkinson's side, but that should deflect away from what was a poor performance from Sunderland on the night.

There were concerns from some of the club's supporters when Parkinson was originally appointed, and those critics are likely to be loud and proud now given his dismal start to life at the Stadium of Light.

Parkinson replaced Jack Ross as Sunderland manager earlier this season, with the former St Mirren boss struggling to find consistency in their results this term, after previously guiding them to the League One play-off final in last year's campaign.

One supporter has taken to Facebook to claim that his side relieved Ross of his duties in charge too early.

This sparked quite the debate on Facebook from a number of the club's supporters.

Tony Watson: "Not sacked early enough."

Graham Hart: "Just embarrassing."

Anne Adams: "Bring him back."

Jules Collins: "Clueless."

Daryl Harris: "He was sacked too late."

Luke Kirtley: "100% agree."

Connor Hardy: "Ross was sacked too early for my liking and I would never have for for Phil, worst option."

Chris Hastings: "Jack Ross is the reason we're still in League One."
