Brentford have rejected a bid for Said Benrahma from Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett.

Benrahma enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, as he contributed directly to 25 goals, with 15 assists and 10 goals in 38 appearances.

The Bees have made it clear that they have no intention to sell him this summer and suggest it would take a huge fee to sign the 23-year-old.

The Algerian international joined Brentford last summer, signing for Dean Smith.

Now Villa manager, his desire to work with Benrahma has only seemingly increased after the impressive performances he has put in.

French outlet Le10sport reported yesterday that Villa submitted an £8.9 million bid for the winger - so Brentford are standing by their statement that it would take a substantial offer for them to consider a sale.

Aston Villa could cool their interest in Benrahma after this latest setback. They have already signed two wingers so far this summer, with Anwar El Ghazi signing on a permanent deal today after Jota was brought to the club last week.

The Verdict

Said Benrahma would be an excellent acquisition for Aston Villa, so it is not surprising that Brentford are demanding such a large sum.

He was the highest assist maker in the Championship last year and his service would be sorely missed by The Bees.

Brentford could persuade him to stay in order to attempt a charge for the play-offs.

If he impresses for another year his transfer fee will only continue to rise, and in the mean time he could help the London club to promotion.

Brentford are in a win-win position and seem determined not to sell, so Villa may have to look elsewhere.
