Millwall have appeared from nowhere to sit on the cusp of the Championship play offs and this afternoon could steal a new club record as well as a top six place.

The Lions have roared (sorry) into eighth place in the Championship table and are now just one point outside the top six. They travel to Ipswich this afternoon knowing that a win could leave them in the midst of an unlikely promotion challenge for the remainder of the season.

They're unbeaten in 13 league matches stretching all the way back to the beginning of 2018, as well as on a run of six consecutive away wins. A win today would see them break a  club record, set a decade ago. The Lions won six in a row in the 2008-09 League One campaign, a feat they equalled that with the 2-0 win at Barnsley. All that stands between them and a new club record is former manager Mick McCarthy, serviong out his final few games as Ipswich manager.

Perhaps more importantly, three points could take them as high as fifth, depending on other results, a remarkable achievement after only winning promotion from League One via the play offs. Neil Harris' side had a slow start to the season, but have not lost a league game since going down 2-1 at Carrow Road on New Year's Day.

The Verdict

Club records, consecutive wins, play off places: it's all happening down at the Den at the moment. Nobody truly fancied them to be around the top ten at this stage of the season, consolidation would have been the word on most supporter's lips. Instead, they're in with a real chance of fighting for a Premier League place next season. They're in form and that could be crucial, especially as they still have to host Fulham, Bristol City and Aston Villa before the season ends.
