Oldham Athletic have rejected bids in excess of £500,000 for highly-rated defender George Edmundson, according to the Daily Mail's Mike Keegan.

Edmundson scored two goals in 50 appearances for Oldham last season and his impressive performances for the Latics have attracted the interest of a host of clubs, including Rangers.

Mike Keegan, a sports journalist for the Daily Mail, delivered the news update via Twitter.

Sky Sports reported that Edmundson has rejected a long-term contract offer from Oldham and has handed in a transfer request.

Rangers reportedly had a bid in the region of £400,000 rejected last week, with Oldham thought to be holding out for £1million for the player and this latest update suggests that they could have bid again.

The Verdict:

It seems only a matter of time now before Edmundson leaves Oldham. He's rejected a long-term contract offer and handed in a transfer request, so he clearly doesn't see his future at the club.

He's obviously a very talented player and it will be very difficult for him to turn down a move to a club the size and stature of Rangers.

Oldham obviously want to get a decent price for their home grown talent and that's fair enough, but they could have their hands forced sooner or later.
