Charlton Athletic are keen on bringing in out of favour Leeds United midfielder Eunan O'Kane before the loan window shuts, reports the South London Press and Mercury

But Addicks manager Lee Bowyer admits a deal for the Irishman will not be easy to complete with the player keen to remain in the Championship.

“He is definitely someone we are interested in," Bowyer told the South London Press.

“But obviously he’s on a big wage, so Leeds are weighing up where he is going. Because of that, we can’t compete with his wage and the player wants to play in the Championship still.

“But he is a target and we have asked the question. They are keeping us in mind the later it goes."

O'Kane made the move to Elland Road from Bournemouth in the summer of 2016 but has failed to kick on during his time with the Whites.

Despite being out of favour with fans, he still made 32 Championship appearances for Leeds last season but is not believed to be in Marcelo Bielsa's plans and was not given a shirt number at the start of the season either.

O'Kane has also made seven appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team, making his debut shortly before joining Leeds in 2016

The verdict

O'Kane is far from a fan favourite at Elland Road and the sooner he is able to leave the club the better.

It is important that the Irishman is not picky about where he goes either. If he decides against a move to Charlton then it is likely he will not play any first team football until at least January.
