Newport County have revealed that Michael Flynn is set to remain as the club's manager, despite being given permission to talk to another Football League side.

It was recently reported that Flynn had turned down the chance to take over as manager of League One side Lincoln City, who are looking for a new manager following the departure of Danny Cowley for Huddersfield Town.

That now appears to have been confirmed, after Newport announced in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, that although they had allowed Flynn to speak to another club in the EFL, the 38-year-old has instead elected to remain at Rodney Parade.

Flynn took over as Newport manager in March 2017 with the club 11 points from safety in League Two, but having kept the club in the Football League that season, the Exiles have climbed up the division under the former midfielder, reaching the fourth-tier play-off last season, with the club currently fourth in the division after eight games of the current season.

Taking to Twitter to react to the club's statement, a number of Newport fans were keen to praise Flynn for his loyalty to the club, while others lamented that the Tweet linking to the statement had not been clearer in its nature.

Here, we take a look at what some of those fans had to say.
