Interim Barnsley manager Adam Murray says he believes that the situation around the club's hunt for a new manager will be given more clarity during the November international break.

The Tykes have been searching for a new manager since sacking Daniel Stendel at the start of October, and Murray is set to take charge of his fifth game as caretaker boss since the German's departure on Saturday, when Barnsley host fellow strugglers Stoke City at Oakwell.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of that crucial clash with the Potters, Murray was asked about the club's search for a new manager, with the 38-year-old quoted by the Yorkshire Post as saying: "My focus has not changed from Stoke. It is a big game for us and then we go into the international break and I imagine we will come out of the international break with a little bit more clarity on the situation.

"But again, whatever that is, only time will tell."

Barnsley have drawn three and lost one of their four games so far under their interim manager, and reflecting on his time in the Oakwell hotseat, Murray continued: "My aim when I took over was to make sure the group was in a better place for whenever that decision was made.

"Whether that is a new manager coming in or an in-house appointment, it does not really matter either way to me.

"My target was to settle the group and I think we have done that and we are in a good place. As far as I am concerned, I have achieved the remit I was challenged with.

"The club will do whatever they think is best and I will be happy with their decision either way."

It is thought that Barnsley have spoken to a number of foreign-based coaches about their managerial position, with former Ingolstadt boss Jens Keller reportedly watching their 2-2 draw with Bristol City last Friday.

The Tykes are currently 23rd in the Championship, five points adrift of safety after 15 games of the season, having not won since their 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day of the season.

The Verdict

I think this will be a big relief for plenty of Barnsley fans.

Things haven't exactly gone as they would have hoped since their return to the Championship, so the appointment of a new manager will at least help the club get back to fully focusing on the battle for survival they already find themselves in at this early stage of the season.

As for Murray himself, he can certainly be pleased with the job he has done in that caretaker role, helping to make the Tykes like a much more difficult outfit to breakdown, as evidenced by the fact that they have held three promotion-chasing sides in the form of Swansea, West Brom and Bristol City to draws under their interim boss.

Indeed, while it does seem as though Barnsley are set to look elsewhere for their replacement for Stendel, I don't think there would be too many around the club who would be disappointed if the role was to be given to Murray on a full-time basis given that record.
