Millwall's assistant manager Adam Barrett has told News at Den that the club will see what happens with regards to the futures of Ben Thompson, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Connor Mahoney moving forwards.

The trio are very much of out favour at the Den and were once again not used during the midweek victory over Reading, despite the Lions being without the injured duo of George Evans and Daniel Ballard.

All three players have previously been linked with potential moves away from the London club and could well be set to assess their options when the January transfer window rolls around.

Asked about the futures of the three players, Barrett was quick to state the following:

"We'll see, we've got a very strong squad. There's a lot of competition for places and everyone is working extremely hard.

"Unfortunately you can't pick everyone, that's the whole point. Every squad across the division would all have the same sort of issues.

"But they're great lads, they're training hard. You can't pick everyone, there's great competition there so we'll see what happens further down the line."

As a collective, the trio have played less than 10 competitive games this term and are struggling to even get a sniff of action at present.

All three of the players are now into the final year of their contracts at the New Den and could well leave for free in the summer of next year if fresh terms aren't agreed.

The Verdict

It's always been a bit of a balancing act for Millwall as they don't have the biggest of squads in the Sky Bet Championship, so it will be interesting to see which way they go on this situation.

The three players seem unable to even make the squad most of the time, so surely something is going to have to give sooner or later.

Getting them off the wage bill would certainly help to free up funds to bring in players in other areas, so this is sure to be at the back of Gary Rowett's mind.

However there is still time between now and the new year for these players to play themselves back into contention, so only time will tell.
