Joe Worrall will return to Nottingham Forest when his loan spell with Rangers ends at the conclusion of the season, the Scottish side's Director of Football has confirmed.

The 22-year-old defender has made 31 appearances in all competitions during a season-long loan to the Glasgow based side, scoring once in a 1-1 draw in an FA Cup tie with Aberdeen.

It seems however that Worrall will not extend his stay at Ibrox, after Rangers' Director of Football Mark Allen confirmed that the defender will return to The City Ground.

Speaking about Worrall to Rangers' official website, Allen revealed: “There’s no secret to the fact Joe Worrall will go back and return to Nottingham Forest.

“So obviously, there’s a focus on making sure we are robust back there, and I think generally we’re looking at where we think we can strengthen.”

Worrall, who has 12 months remaining on his Forest contract, revealed that he still sees his long term future at Forest when speaking to The Nottinghamshire Post earlier in the season.

Since making his senior debut for Forest in 2016, Worrall has made a total of 56 appearances in all competitions for Forest, scoring once.

The verdict

Worrall's chances have come and gone at Rangers this season, so it makes sense that he will return to Forest at the end of season, particularly given those comments earlier in the year.

Despite that, Worrall's experience competing for league titles in Scotland may well stand him good stead going forward, both with Forest next season and further on in his career.
