Sheffield Wednesday's search for a new manager is underway after they parted company with Garry Monk at the start of the week.

Monk has been with Wednesday little over a year, but the calendar year hasn't been a good one; on-field and off-field.

However, Monk had dragged Wednesday off the foot of the Championship table in the space of the last week. That, though, wasn't enough to keep him in a job and Dejphon Chansiri pulled the trigger on Monday night.

According to Dom Howson at Yorkshire Live, Wednesday are hoping to make an appointment before their next fixture against Preston North End, which comes on the back of this week's international break.

Phil Neville was linked with the job yesterday (Sky Sports), whilst the Daily Mail credited Wednesday with an interest in appointing Paul Cook, whose last job came in the Championship with Wigan Athletic.

More recently, it's emerged that Sol Campbell could well be somebody of interest to Sheffield Wednesday (The Athletic).

The Owls sit 23rd in the Championship table, with a victory over AFC Bournemouth and draw with Millwall - combined with their 12-point deduction being halved - in the space of the last week lifting them off the bottom of the division.

The Verdict

A swift appointment is needed.

You've got the presume that Chansiri has pulled the trigger at this point because he had the international break to get the right man in.

Preston await on November 21st and, you've got to imagine, there will be an appointment before then.
