Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough says he is expecting more from Hope Akpan when he returns from injury.

In a report by the Burton Mail, former Derby and Sheffield United manager Clough has spoken of his desire to see more from his injured star when he returns to the first team, citing his ability in training as something he expects to be seeing on a match day.

Akpan is nearing a return from an injury suffered in August, and could make his return either today against Leeds or next weekend against Fulham. However, Clough has made his thoughts clear on his what he expects from Akpan.

"He has to do more, and we are expecting more from him," said the Albion boss.

'When we watch him in training, the ability that he's got, we've got another 40 games to go this season, so he's going to play a role in those."

Burton have made a poor start and have won only one of their opening seven games to leave them sitting just above the relegation zone in the Championship.

The Verdict

Akpan is undoubtedly a top talent and should well give Burton a lift when he's back. However, Clough does not stand for second rate performances or a lack of effort, and he will be fully expecting to see Akpan deliver when he does put him back in the team.
