Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet will be hoping his side can build on their victory last-time out, having previously lost three of their last four outings when they travel to Leeds United this weekend.

One key decision that awaits Clotet is whether to start Jefferson Montero - the winger is now fit and available after two solid weeks of training.

So as Clotet looks for that winning formula, should he consider starting with loan winger Jefferson Montero against Leeds?

“I’m not sure Clotet should. In Fran Villalba and Crowley, the Blues had a lot of joy last time out when they beat Middlesbrough 2-1.

“While there is no doubt that Montero would offer Birmingham pace and skill out wide against Leeds, the players that have been operating on the wings have not done much wrong to be dropped.

“Even Jacques Maghoma and Odin Bailey came on and made an impact, with Maghoma constantly looking to break into the box and Bailey eventually scoring the winning goal.

“Montero has undoubted ability and could frighten Leeds in an area they are particularly vulnerable in on counter-attacks, but like the old saying goes: ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.”

George Brooks

"It's fantastic news for Birmingham that Montero is fit again. He's an exciting player, he's got plenty of experience in the Championship and he's more than capable of making an impact at this level.

"I think he's going to have a very important role to play for the Blues this season.

"I'm not sure if Clotet should decide to start him against Leeds, but I think he should definitely involved in some way.

"The good thing with Montero is he's the sort of player than can make an impact off the bench, so he should be able to come on and make things happen if Birmingham are behind and need a goal."

"With the winger seemingly recovered from his injury issues, I believe it would be too early to thrust him back in to the squad for the game against Leeds.

"Although he has the ability to change games, I think it would be wise for Clotet to think about the long-term rather than in the moment, with the Blues having a tough run of fixtures to come.

"It would be more wise to give Montero a few games with the under 23 side to get himself match fit before transferring him back into first team contention.

"This method will allow the former Oxford United manager to assess if the player is truly ready to be playing regular football again, after returning from an injury which could re-occur if he is rushed back."
