Football League World's West Brom fan pundit Sarah Rudge has expressed excitement at the reportedly imminent appointment of a new head of academy.

Mark Harrison left to join Aston Villa in the summer and, according to the Express and Star, Richard Stevens of Coventry City is close to making the trip accross the Midlands to take his place with the Baggies.

"After the departure of Harrison, who was fantastic for us, we definitely need someone who can aim to continue his work and keep our academy developing in the same vain," the regular punter told Football League World.

"We have nurtured some great players over the last few years with the likes of Louie Barry, who has recently joined Barcelona, and Morgan Rogers, who has gone on to join Manchester City.

"Along with those we have Romaine Sawyers who came through our ranks so the quality of the players we have produced has been exceptional and we need to continue this.

"I know that James Maddison came through the ranks at Coventry and  Callum Wilson also started his career there having grown up in the area and he too is now in the England set up and enjoying success in the Premier League so clearly Richard Stevens has been important in producing quality home grown talent."

Harrison made the controversial switch from the Hawthorns to Villa Park earlier in the summer after a successful spell with the Baggies, but it has left them needing to find a replacement.

And Stevens comes with an impressive track record, having brought through the likes of Maddison and Wilson, two players who have gone on to become regulars in the national team set-up.

In more recent seasons the likes of Tom Bayliss, Jordan Shipley, Lee Burge and Jordan Willis have all gone on to play regularly for the Sky Blues' first-team having graduated through the academy, giving West Brom fans plenty to be excited about.
