Dean Smith wants the January window to turn things around at Norwich City, Football League World exclusively revealed yesterday.

The Canaries are used to dominating in the Championship but have not been able to reach that sort of level since their relegation last term and pressure is building on Smith.

FLW understands that Norwich are starting to consider Smith's position. He is said to want the January window to turn things around but club chiefs are unsure.

His side are fifth as we enter the World Cup break but should he be given the time he wants?

We quizzed our FLW writers for their thoughts...

Having failed to guide Norwich to safety in the Premier League last season, the pressure was always going to be on Smith to deliver the goods in the opening stages of the current term.

Despite initially making a good start to the season, Norwich have recently lost ground on leaders Burnley as they have suffered five defeats in their last nine league games.

Given that automatic promotion is the goal for Norwich this year, they may need to cut ties with Smith in order to achieve this target as they are currently not heading in the right direction.

Unless Norwich step up their performance levels in December, a new manager may be needed to prevent the club from falling out of contention for a top-two finish.

I'd like to see Norwich keep the faith in Dean Smith.

I can certainly understand the frustration of the Carrow Road faithful. They're used to being top of the pile in the Championship but that's not been the case this year and they find themselves x points back from the automatic spots.

It's not just been bad results, the performances have been really inconsistent too but with the World Cup break to work with his squad and the January window to strengthen it, I have faith in the current boss to turn things around.

Things may not have clicked for the Canaries since their return to the Championship but Smith has experience winning promotion at this level.

Norwich have become used to bouncing straight back from relegation but sometimes it does take a little bit of time for things to click.

It's a difficult one to judge because from the outside, things don't seem too bad with the Canaries currently sitting in fifth.

However, there's clear unhappiness at Carrow Road and you can understand why because some of their results and performances just haven't been up to par.

If they are to make a change, they should probably do it now because that will give them time to find a new manager via a thorough recruitment process and then allow Smith's potential successor to put his stamp on the first team during the World Cup break.

They also need to ensure there's a better alternative out there who can take them back to the Premier League.

Smith already has promotion-winning experience under his belt and if they can't find someone with a better CV, they should probably look to keep hold of him.
