Portsmouth’s John Marquis has said that he’s striving to adapt to his new no.10 role under Kenny Jackett this season.
Marquis, 27, joined Portsmouth in the summer from Doncaster Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
He scored a bundle of goals for Rovers in the three seasons he was there, including 22 in League One last season. But his time at Fratton Park has be far from prolific, having scored just five all season.
Today, Marquis was quoted as saying that he feels he’s a natural forward, and that his new no.10 role is something that he’s having to learn along the way.
Playing that role in the last three games though, Marquis has scored in each of them, and Pompey have won them all 2-1.

Plenty of Pompey fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Marquis and his new role, and here’s what they had to say:
Clear to anyone who’s watching what he’s out of position. Why spend £1.5m on someone to play them out of position

Just a fudge playing him at 10. He didn’t want to drop a senior player and clear leader in the dressing room. Done the same with Brett previously.

Exactly why did Jackett sign him and not a play making midfielder he's a a good goal poacher nothing more.

100% agree but atm it’s a toss up between him and Harrison in our system , no which one I’d pick atm 🤷🏼♂️

Easy to blame Kenny but Marquis has had plenty of easy chances to score and has missed consistently. Ellis offers more as a 9

I believe so also
