Norwich City's Ben Godfrey is a target for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he looks to rebuild his side following a disappointing end to the Premier League season.

United won just two of their last nine league games, and it appears Solskjaer is looking to the Championship for young talent to strengthen his side, with Football Insider recently reporting that the United boss already believes he has secured the signings of Swansea winger Dan James and Stoke defender Nathan Collins.

Now it seems as though the Norwegian has identified another target, with The Sun reporting that Godfrey - who can play in either the centre of midfield or defence - is attracting interest from Old Trafford.

Following a quiet start to the campaign, Godfrey became a regular feature for Norwich as they won promotion to the Premier League as champions this season, with the 21-year-old making 31 league appearances and scoring four times as The Canaries sealed their first return to the top flight in three years.

Godfrey does, however, have three years remaining on his Norwich contract, meaning it could be difficult for United to prise him away from Carrow Road.

The verdict

This could be a smart move for United.

Godfrey's versatility means he offers an option for Solskjaer in more than one position, and he has demonstrated his adaptability in the way he stepped in to experience his first run in the Norwich side at such a crucial time for the club.

The only concern for United here may be that they are pursuing a number of players with little experience of first-team football as a whole, let alone the Premier League.
