Wigan Athletic fought off a number of teams to complete the signing of Jamal Lowe on a three-year deal during the summer of 2019.

The Latics had been missing an attacking outlet going forward since the departure of Will Grigg, who left for Sunderland early into 2019.

Lowe arrived with an impressive record in front of goal, with the winger netting on 15 occasions for Portsmouth in League One last season.

That impressive run of form clearly didn't go unnoticed either, with Wigan winning the race to land his signature early into the summer transfer window.

But Lowe hasn't hit the heights that were originally hoped for him by the Latics supporters, as they look to improve on last season's 18th place finish in the Championship.

The 25-year-old is yet to score for Paul Cook's side this season, despite making eleven league appearances so far for his new team.

This goal drought will rightly be a huge concern for Lowe, Cook and the club's supporters, who will be eager to see the forward recapture the sort of form that saw him attracting interest from a number of clubs during the summer.

The expectation for Wigan will be to consolidate themselves in the second tier once again, and they've started the season steadily, with a recent upturn in form keeping them away from the relegation zone.

But with their top scorer being Cheyenne Dunkley who is a defender, it shows that Lowe and Wigan's strikers need to step up to the mark and perform to a high standard at the earliest of opportunities.

Lowe has already shown that he can score goals, but it seems as though the forward is struggling for confidence in front of goal which will be a concern.

But the club's supporters do have to remember that the Championship is the highest standard that Lowe has played at so far, having made a rapid rise up the ladder in his footballing career.

It seems as though plenty of Wigan fans won't be pleased with the lack of impact Lowe has made so far with Paul Cook's side.
