Preston North End star Tom Barkhuizen beat off the competition to land the Championship Player of the Month award for March.

The impressive attacker claimed the top prize ahead of Leeds United’s prolific striker Chris Wood, Bristol City’s free scoring centre half Aden Flint and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Luke Freeman.

For the second month running, a Preston North End player has notched this prize after Aiden McGeady won February Player of the Month in the second tier.

With five goals and an assist in four games during March, Tom Barkhuizen was a worthy winner of this prize.

The 23-year-old winger or striker arrived for a cut price fee in January from League Two Morecambe and he has had no problems settling in or adapting to a higher league.

Preston fans flocked to Twitter to send their congratulations to Barkhuizen for picking up the award.
