According to reports from the Telegraph, Newcastle United could be set to terminate Jack Colback's contract at St. James' Park prematurely.

The 30-year-old is completely out-of-favour under Steve Bruce, and is yet to make a single appearance for the Magpies this season.

The midfielder spent the last 18 months on loan at Nottingham Forest, making a total of 55 appearances for the Reds across two loan spells at the City Ground.

Colback was an important player under Aitor Karanka and Martin O'Neill last season, making 39 appearances, scoring three goals and captaining the Reds on more than one occasion.

But with his contract at Newcastle set to expire at the end of the season, Colback could be set to have his contract cut short by the club, to free up wages ahead of the January window.
