Millwall’s winning Championship run came to an end after a disappointing goalless draw with rock-bottom Wycombe yesterday.
Gary Rowett’s team were bidding to make it four straight league wins for the first time for almost four years, but registered just four shots on target in what was poor performance from the Lions.
Millwall might have extended their unbeaten league run to eight matches, which saw them move a point closer top the top-six, but it was a real opportunity missed for the South London outfit, who could’ve have moved just five points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth with a victory.
But whilst there weren’t too many positives for Rowett’s side, racking up their 13th clean sheet of the campaign was something to build on.
The absence of Jake Cooper, who missed the game with a shoulder problem, wasn’t felt too much – with the display of January signing George Evans a rare plus point for Millwall.
Evans has played every minute since making the Deadline Day switch from Derby, with the Lions collecting ten points from a possible 12 available with the former Man City man in their starting XI.
And against the Chairboys, he caught the eye of the Millwall faithful, who’ve been reacting to his performance on Twitter:
Dreadful game, dreadful result. I like the look of George Evans a lot. Next. #Millwall

Awful performance. So many poor touches and misplaced passes. Looked tired + leggy in the final third with no real ideas to create any meaningful chances. Perhaps a sign of much the injuries will hamper us? On the plus side, thought George Evans + Malone were superb. #millwall

The only positive in that was the performance of George Evans. #Millwall

Poor game of football that was. George Evans is some player, how have Derby have let him go on the cheap, thought Romeo was looking better again today too. #Millwall

I must admit I was one who was not impressed with us signing Evans but he's proving to be absolutely brilliant so far!

A hard watch.
I hate Wycombe. They always do it to us.
A few of the pace today. Jed was poor, especially the 1st half.
Evans looks so good. We could have pushed him further a bit.
Would have bit peoples hands off for 10pts from 4 games.@ThatMillwallPod @mervpayne #Millwall

George Evans was a class above everyone today. Malone also very good. Defensively solid, but going forward was quite poor. Not enough quality, inadequate service (into Smith). These injuries are taking a toll

Not the best game today!! But both Evans and Malone brilliant again #Millwall

FT 0-0 & a poor game overall. Both sides had penalty shouts, Fred’s one looked like we dodged a bullet, but few chances.
Great performance by George Evans – the Bermondsey Beckenbauer.
Pity @RyanJamesLoftus & I as we have to talk about that scuffle of a game on tomorrow’s show
