Charlton Athletic forward Chuks Aneke has admitted that he is hoping to secure a return to the Championship with the club in the future and has insisted that the club have the firepower needed to achieve something special at this level next season.

The Addicks would have been hoping to launch a push for promotion during the current campaign after finishing seventh in the League One standings last year.

However, Charlton have been incredibly disappointing this season at this level as they have failed to deliver the goods on a consistent basis.

Addicks manager Johnnie Jackson will unquestionably be keen to stamp his own authority on the club's squad in the upcoming transfer window by drafting in some fresh faces.

Currently able to call upon the services of Aneke, Jayden Stockley and Conor Washington, Jackson may not necessarily need to add to his existing options in this particular position.

Aneke has scored four goals in eight league appearances for Charlton since returning to The Valley earlier this year while Stockley and Washington have netted a combined total of 28 goals this season.

Speaking to London News Online about his ambitions for the future at Charlton, Aneke said: "Next year we'll go again and definitely do better.

"I've played in the Championship for Charlton and Birmingham.

"I tried my best but I don't think I had great seasons there.

"There is still a motivation of mine to go to the Championship and prove myself.

"We're going to work hard and hopefully achieve that here with Charlton.

"I think me, Conor and Jayden have got a lot of experience at this level.

"We've even played in the Championship,

"There's a lot of firepower.

"All three of us are very capable strikers.

"I think that is definitely a good strike force for League One.

"We've got a front three that is capable of scoring goals at this level, we've got enough firepower.

"If we keep everyone fit and firing, then we can do something special."

The Verdict

It is hard to disagree with Aneke's comments as Charlton do have the firepower to succeed at this level.

However, in order to move forward as a club next season, the Addicks will need to bolster their squad in other areas of the pitch.

As for Aneke, he will be looking to spearhead a push for promotion in the 2022/23 campaign by featuring regularly for Charlton.

During his career to date, the forward has managed to produce a plethora of impressive displays in the third-tier as he has provided 78 direct goal contributions in this division.
