Middlesbrough continued their impressive recent run on New Year's Day, as they ran out 2-0 winners over Preston North End at Deepdale.

That result means it is now four straight wins for Jonathan Woodgate's side, and while they remain 16th in the Championship standings, they are now just seven points adrift of the play-off places.

One player who played a significant part in that win in Lancashire, was Rudy Gestede.

There had been eyebrows raised when Gestede was named in the starting lineup in the league for the first time this season at Deepdale, but the striker - who is out of contract at the end of the season - certainly repaid Woodgate's faith in him.

Gestede would open the scoring for 'Boro just before half time, acrobatically firing in from just inside the North End area, while continuing to cause problems for the hosts throughout the course of the match.

It was certainly a performance that seemed to get Middlesbrough fans talking, with plenty taking to Twitter after the game to pay tribute to the often-maligned striker's performance at Deepdale.

Here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
