The Gas are preparing to embark on life back in Sky Bet League Two, and are expected to be among the favourites for promotion under Joey Barton.

12 new signings have already arrived at the Memorial Stadium, with Pitman now putting pen to paper to become the 13th new addition.

Pitman arrives at Rovers having left Swindon Town by mutual consent, after spending a year at the County Ground.

The 33-year-old made 38 appearances in League One last season, scoring 11 goals for the Robins in a campaign which culminated in relegation.

In what year were Bristol Rovers founded?

The experienced striker has now moved to Bristol Rovers, penning a one-year deal with the club holding a one-year extension option.

Barton said: “We are delighted to welcome Brett Pitman to Rovers. He’s a player we’ve long admired as we have been used to him causing us problems when he’s played against us previously.

“Recruiting a proven goalscorer was a priority of ours this summer. Brett is a proven goalscorer in the league above and a winner by character and adds a significant level of quality and experience to our forward line.”

Rovers only scored 40 goals in League One last season, with defender Luke Leahy ending the season as their top scorer with 10 goals.

Leahy has since moved on to Shrewsbury Town, so further competition was needed for the likes of Brandon Hanlan who scored nine goals last term.
