Barnsley have been thoroughly impressive under Daniel Stendel since their relegation to League One last season.

The Tykes were dumped out of the Championship on the final day of the season but the German has steadied a panicking ship admirably and they now look set to push for an immediate return to the second-tier.

They currently sit third in the League One table, just two points behind second-placed Sunderland and four behind table-toppers Portsmouth.

More good news came their way on Wednesday when star midfielder Alex Mowatt signed a new deal at the club, extending his stay at the club until 2020.

Mowatt has been a key cog in Stendel's well-oiled machine so far this season and this will put to bed any rumours that he could leave anytime soon.

He has played in all 17 league matches for the Tykes and racked up two goals and two assists in that time.

Unsurprisingly the news absolutely delighted the fans...
