It is a huge week for Thomas Christiansen and Leeds United, despite the Whites not playing due to the international break.

Christiansen has overseen a major slump in form from his Leeds squad, who have suffered seven defeats in their last nine Sky Bet Championship fixtures, which has seen them slide down the table into 10th heading into November’s international break.

Leeds’ form is a worry, and Christiansen has plenty of questions to answer over the break. One player who appears to have been sacrificed by Christiansen as he searches for the answer to Leeds’ ongoing problems is Pablo Hernandez, who has not featured in a starting XI for the Whites since the defeat to Reading in mid-October.

Here at FLW, we believe that Christiansen has to find a way to get Hernandez back into Leeds’ starting XI alongside Samuel Saiz, as when the duo have been on the pitch, even in the club’s recent difficult spell, Leeds have looked better.

During the early stage of the season, Hernandez was sacrificed out wide, with Saiz in a central role. Leeds had great success with that combination, and although the general feel was 32-year-old Hernandez was wasted out wide, results were better.

Even in Leeds’ most recent defeat to Brentford, the Whites were never in the contest until half-time, when Hernandez was introduced wide on the left and Saiz pushed into the middle.

Something so basic as getting Hernandez and Saiz back into the same starting XI could help turn things around in attack for Leeds, and bring back the cutting edge they previously showed. Of course, Leeds still have defensive issues, and Christiansen needs to find a settled midfield partnership to allow some talented attacking players to flourish.

However, after the international break, first and foremost, Hernandez needs to come back into the starting XI.
