Speaking to Leeds United’s official Twitter feed, Thomas Christiansen has highlighted the importance of having the club’s supporters behind them this evening against Sheffield United, in what he describes as one of the biggest games in their season.

Leeds welcome Sheffield United to Elland Road, looking to close the four point gap to Blades, who currently sit third. Christiansen’s side have won just twice in their last six fixtures, a worrying run of form that has seen Sheffield United, Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers all open up a significant gap ahead of the Whites.

Christiansen has insisted Leeds cannot afford to lose tonight against Chris Wilder’s side, as a seven point gap is “too much” at this point of the season. The Leeds boss has now called on the club’s supporters, claiming it is a huge advantage for his side to have them behind them this evening.

The Whites head into tonight’s fixture on the back of a mixed week, which has seen them end a three-match losing streak in the Championship, but also crash out of the Carabao Cup.

A goalscoring brace from Samuel Saiz and a Pierre-Michel Lasogga header secured a 3-0 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate last Saturday, before Christiansen’s side were beaten 3-1 by Leicester City in the cup on Tuesday.

The Verdict

Leeds’ supporters need to make the atmosphere inside Elland Road as intimidating as they can this evening, with Sheffield United perhaps providing Christiansen’s side with one of their biggest tests of the season so far.

Three points for Sheffield United would be a huge statement from Wilder’s side, and it is turning into a fixture that Leeds simply cannot afford to lose.
