Christian Burgess has remained cautiously optimistic after Portsmouth’s recent form has seen them climb to seventh in League One.
The defender managed to net the winner for Pompey at the weekend as the South-Coast side beat Bolton by a solitary goal away from home.
Now, Portsmouth are just outside the play-offs on the goal difference and they’re one of the teams in some good form so they’ll fancy their chances of being in the top six come the end of the campaign.
Burgess has now maintained that the league is completely wide open and that they have to keep grinding out victories like they did on the weekend when they traveled to Bolton.
Speaking to the Portsmouth News, Burgess said: “There’s plenty of opportunities to pick up points.
“It’s important to grind out wins like that. It would have been desperately disappointing to have conceded and only take a point.
“The league is wide open. We still have loads of games to go.”

It was a very good victory for Portsmouth on Saturday and one that shows that they can mix up their game when they need to. The home record has been very good this season, and if they can add the odd away victory on top of that then they’ll be in the top six at the end of the campaign.
Kenny Jackett was under some big pressure at the start of the season but he seems to have changed things around and he’s now looking up rather than down.
If Pompey are to get into the top six then they need to keep that consistent level of performance that they’re showing and keep on striving to improve if they want to be in the Championship.
