The Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race has been twisting and turning for some time now, and the battle between Leeds United and Sheffield United for second has been fascinating to watch in recent weeks.

Leeds went and lost at Birmingham on April 6, handing the advantage back to Sheffield United. However, Chris Wilder’s side have since dropped four points, with Leeds recording back-to-back victories to haul things back into their own hands in the final four games and even give them an outside chance of pulling Norwich back within touching distance.

Whilst Marcelo Bielsa has remained very calm amid this intense battle, slight cracks were starting to show at Bramall Lane following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Millwall.

“We’re third in the division, so it’s about perspective a little bit. We were disappointed on Saturday, I understand that – manager, staff, players and supporters,” Wilder told the Sheffield Star.

“If a team now wins three or four of their last games then they deserve to go up.”

He’s right too – a team winning three or four of the remaining games are likely to win promotion. Of course, he’s referring to his own side, but inadvertently he’s outlined exactly what Leeds need to do in the run-in.

Bielsa’s side are in control of the situation now, and although they might be level on points with the Blades again when they kick-off against Wigan on Good Friday – with the Blades playing at lunchtime – they have their fate in their own hands.

An Easter Monday trip to Brentford is tough for Leeds, as is Aston Villa’s visit to Elland Road on April 28. However, playing like they have in the last two games should fill the Whites with the confidence they can get the points on the board Wilder mentions.

On paper, the Blades’ run-in is easier, they face an out of form Nottingham Forest on Friday, before travelling to Hull on Monday. Ipswich Town then visit Bramall Lane and they head to Stoke on the final day of the season.

However, the pressure is on Wilder’s men to give Leeds something to think about, which they failed to do against Millwall last weekend. And, when reflecting on that game he has managed to outline exactly what the Whites need to do in the next three weeks.

Three wins and Leeds could be over the line, the twists and turns could be over and the Whites might even have pulled Norwich back.
