Sheffield United aim to speak to Tottenham after Mauricio Pochettino revealed the Premier League club could recall Cameron Carter-Vickers from his loan spell in January.

An injury setback to Toby Alderwiereld means the Belgian isn't going to return until February at the earliest, and that could prompt the Spurs boss to recall his young defender.

Pochettino told reporters before their clash against Brighton tonight that 'we have the possibility to bring them back', when asked about the defender and fellow youngster Josh Onomah who is currently on loan at United's Championship rivals Aston Villa.

Obviously, losing Carter-Vickers would disrupt the Blades and the Sheffield Star have reported that Chris Wilder has privately asked the Argentinian what his plans are so that the Yorkshire club can try and work around the situation.

After a good start, the 19-year old's form has dipped in recent games and he was an unused substitute for the defeat against Bristol City on Friday night. Despite that, the report claims that Wilder wants to keep Carter-Vickers for the season if possible.

The Verdict

Losing Cameron Carter-Vickers wouldn't be a massive blow for the Blades as they have other defensive options and he isn't in the team at the minute.

However, it could still impact them. His displays earlier in the season were solid and if he does depart Wilder would probably have to look for a new defender in the market.

That's why it's important for the club to know as soon as possible what Spurs' intentions are, so they can look for cover if needed.
