An angry Chris Wilder has questioned the desire and mentality of his Sheffield United players and suggested he may make changes to his squad this summer.

The Blades missed a great opportunity to move joint-sixth with a win against Birmingham on Saturday when they lost 2-1 and now any chances of reaching the play-offs look very slim.

Given that, Wilder was understandably upset with his players and told the Sheffield Star that changes would be made if the side had lost their edge.

"One or two have maybe got a bit comfy. Some on the outside maybe haven’t pushed hard enough and have gone a bit individual. I’ve been in the business long enough to not know what to do if that’s the case."

"If they are, you know what’s going to happen. I can’t build the sides I have in the past or going forward with that mentality. We work to a plan and you have to sacrifice yourself even if you aren’t playing to make sure the team works."

Defeat at St. Andrew's left the Yorkshire side 11th and three points behind sixth with two games to go, and they would be a worth a bet to get a top six spot - with free bets UK a good place to find the best offer for the Blades bet.

The Verdict

This is stinging criticism from Wilder who had every right to be unhappy with his sides performance against a struggling Birmingham side.

However, the players may feel that questioning their desire and commitment after the season they've had is very unfair.

Either way, it's now down to the players to respond in the next two games as Wilder is clearly prepared to make big changes this summer if necessary.
