Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has heaped praise on his players after they recoreded back-to-back victories following their 3-3 draw with Aston Villa prior to that.

The Blades were three goals up at Villa Park ten days ago before the hosts incredibly fought back with just ten minutes left.

Many felt that could be a turning point in the Yorkshire sides season, however, they have since beaten Middlesbrough and Reading at Bramall Lane without conceding a goal.

And, Wilder told the Sheffield Star that he was extremely pleased with the character his team displayed in responding to the setback.

"It was quite a difficult week after Villa. There were questions of the group, ‘what’s the reaction going to be like?

"We lost Jack O’Connell through injury and Chris Basham was suspended, and then George Baldock came off injured. But the reaction of everyone was fabulous and answered a lot of questions."

The latest success, a 4-0 thrashing of the Royals, moved the Blades into the top two ahead of a crucial clash against automatic promotion rivals West Brom at The Hawthorns this weekend.

The Verdict

You really can't stress how impressive this response has been from Sheffield United.

The Villa game would've been such a big blow for everyone connected to the club and you'd have understood if heads dropped.

But, they didn't and to get six points since shows the spirit and togetherness in the group and ultimately Wilder deserves credit for that because he sets the tone from the top.
