Sheffield United had to put their play-off push on hold with the FA Cup taking priority this weekend but the Blades will be back in Championship action on Tuesday night against QPR.

Chris Wilder’s men secured a massive three points last time out beating Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 2-1 thanks to a Billy Sharp brace.

The experienced forward has been the talisman for the Blades since Wilder took charge however he has had to be patient in recent weeks.

With the Blades boasting several options up top, including January signing James Wilson and top scorer Leon Clarke, it’s fair to say the manager regularly has a headache when it comes to picking his team.

And, it’s not only up top with competition for places equally fierce in midfield.

With that in mind, Wilder will be looking to trim his squad in the summer and here are two players who should leave Bramall Lane.

This may be a bit harsh on Evans who has battled through injury problems this season but there are far too many strikers available for Wilder.

Clarke is the Blades top scorer whilst Sharp is their inspirational skipper. Elsewhere, Clayton Donaldson provides a real physical presence and David Brooks has excelled in advanced roles this season.

So, even if James Wilson didn’t sign permanently then it looks a tall order for a striker with no goals from seven games to play regularly next season. And, that’s without any new signings coming in.

Evans will be desperate to play football and unfortunately for him he will have to leave Sheffield United to find it.

Carruthers is in a similar position to Evans. The January window was a productive one for the Blades with Ryan Leonard and Lee Evans joining to boost the midfield.

That means the ex-MK Dons man has very little chance of featuring in the midfield for the remainder of the campaign with Mark Duffy, John Lundstram and even the versatile Brooks, Chris Basham and Ricky Holmes options for Wilder in the centre of the park.

Carruthers nearly left in January and he will realise he must move on in the summer in order to play some games.
