Sheffield United are looking to add to their playing squad this summer, but Chris Wilder has confirmed that wholesale changes will not be made at Bramall Lane this summer.

Wilder led the Blades to 10th in the Championship last season, on the club’s return to the second-tier.

The Blades were well in promotion contention for much of the season, with a top-six challenge looking a certainty.

However, a difficult final third of the season saw Sheffield United fall away, with Wilder’s side eventually stumbling to a 10th place finish.

According to the Sheffield Star, Wilder will target two new forwards this summer, with the Blades also having hopes of adding a defender to their squad ahead of next season.

Despite those plans, Wilder refuses to make wholesale changes to his squad this summer. He told the Sheffield Star: “We have been looking at it (transfers) for quite a while now, and we have been given a number to work with.

“I will always try and get the maximum out of the group. I will not be making big changes to the group.”

Wilder recently quashed speculation surrounding his future in Sheffield, with the popular 50-year-old signing a new contract at Bramall Lane.

The extension Wilder has signed has contracted him to the club until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

Sheffield United were excellent in the Championship last season, with Wilder’s side making a real impact on their return to the second-tier.

Of course they fell short, however, this summer they know they have a good platform to build on.

Adding quality, rather than quantity, this summer, is going to be key.

If the right quality arrives at Bramall Lane, the Blades could be a real force next season in the Championship.
