Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder is eyeing up a potential move to re-sign Sheffield United forward Oliver Burke during the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

Football League World believes that Wilder is already interested in potentially signing Chris Basham from his former employers as he sets about identifying the right transfer targets to improve his squad during the January transfer window.

Boro were credited with an interest in Burke during the latter stages of the summer transfer window when Neil Warnock was in charge. However, in the end, the attacker remained at Bramall Lane to try and compete to earn a place back in the starting line-up for the Blades under Slavisa Jokanovic.

However, Burke has been unable to convince his new manager at Sheffield United and he has managed to make just three appearances in the Championship and a further two in the League Cup to date.

According to the latest report from TEAMtalk, Wilder is now wanting to bring Burke into his new squad at Middlesbrough as he sets about stamping his authority around the Riverside Stadium.

It is also believed that Burke himself would be keen to make the switch to Middlesbrough from Sheffield United and would love to work under Wilder once again at the Riverside.

The verdict

This is a move that would certainly suit all concerned because Burke is not going to be able to get much game time with Sheffield United this season it seems under Jokanovic. For whatever reason, the Serbian manager has not taken to the attacker and he has been preferring other attacking options ahead of his throughout the first half of the campaign.

Burke has a lot of qualities that make him well suited to the way that Wilder likes his side to get forwards and you could see him adding a different dynamic to the team than Boro have at the moment with their attacking options. So, it is a signing that makes perfect sense for them.

Wilder knows how to get the best out of Burke and he will be eager to prove his talent after finding it difficult in the Premier League last term and then having been limited in terms of his game time this season.

It seems as though this transfer target would suit both Middlesbrough and Wilder because Boro were also interested in the summer. So, this is a signing that you can see them being able to pull off in January.
