Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has admitted he needs to add to his squad in January and believes that the club will appeal to the right players.

The Blades have had another strong season so far and are firmly in the play-off hunt as we approach the halfway mark.

However, there has been a clear trend with the side this season, with Wilder's men struggling against their promotion rivals.

Two recent defeats to Leeds and West Brom at Bramall Lane reinforced that, with many thinking that extra quality is needed if the side are to make it a memorable campaign.

And, Wilder told the Sheffield Star he is keen on adding new faces although he may be restricted in terms of what he can do because of the ownership situation.

"We are an attractive proposition to players. Hopefully, we can keep this position going into January to make us even more attractive.

"Whether the changing room needs a lift or just to strengthen the squad, we need a little bit more in certain areas. We just need to tie it all in financially."

The Yorkshire side head into the busy Christmas period sitting in fifth position, seven points behind second placed Norwich.

The Verdict

January was a crucial period for Sheffield United last season as they pushed for promotion and where their rivals strengthened, they failed to do so.

If they are serious about promotion then that can't happen again and Wilder needs to be suitably backed.

He is right in the sense that they will be able to attract players in terms of the position and size of the club but he needs the finances to close important deals.
