The Blades are undoubtedly excited for the upcoming Sky Bet Championship campaign which sees them ply their trade in the second-tier for the first time following a six-year absence.

Having endured the drop to League One back in 2011, Sheffield United supporters, including trustworthy manager Chris Wilder, will feel they are back where they belong and their next step is to solidify Championship status.

Wilder has unexpectedly added great numbers to his squad despite seemingly gliding through last season, as no less than five players have walked through the doors at Bramall Lane since their promotion-winning term.

The only flaw to his recruitment is they have all disapprovingly come from the lower tiers of the Football League which may show what calibre of arrivals the boss is aiming for.

However, the reasoning behind that may just be to add strength in depth and, hopefully, he'll utilise the footballers at his disposal instead of reducing his transfer budget for the January window.

Here are TWO Sheffield United fringe players that Chris Wilder must give a chance to shine in their pre-season friendlies...

James Wilson

James Wilson's irregular campaign last time out didn't help him settle down at Bramall Lane but Chris Wilder is a notable manager so there should be a reasonable explanation behind his absence from the team.

Last summer's defensive addition featured in a measly ten outings in all competitions and that would have been frustrating for the centre-back after enjoying a successful year prior at Oldham Athletic.

His future could very well be decided in this transfer window and if he wants to remain at Sheffield United then Wilson should hope for Wilder to present an opportunity to impress in pre-season.

David Brooks

In their bid to retain their most promising figures, attacking play-maker David Brooks will be desperate to earn his chance in the Sheffield United first-team and that can begin in the upcoming pre-season schedule.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated at the Blades so should be well within Chris Wilder plans for the near future, however, if he wants to see what the youngster can showcase then the opportunity could arise before a ball is kicked for the new season.

In order to thrive and have a positive impact on United's campaign then the boss has to certainly give the chance to make an impression in the next few weeks.
