Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has told the Blades hierarchy that Swansea City manager Steve Cooper would be the right fit for the job of getting the club back to the Premier League next term, per The Sun.

Cooper has been doing a fine job with Swansea since taking over at the start of last season from Graham Potter, with him having guided the club against the odds all the way to the play-offs last term in the Championship.

While despite losing some key loan players from last campaign this term he has got has got the Welsh club in the mix for automatic promotion.

Sheffield United are facing an almost certain relegation from the Premier League this season now, with Paul Heckingbottom now in caretaker charge following Wilder’s departure.

According to The Sun, they are interested in hiring former Watford and Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic to try and get the Blades promoted again at the first attempt.

However, The Sun also report that Wilder has been consulted over who he thinks is the right man for the job and he has informed the Blades that Cooper would be a good fit for them.

It is believed that should Swansea fail to go on and earn promotion to the top-flight then he could be available in the summer and move on from the Welsh club.

The Verdict

Cooper has done a phenomenal job with Swansea and has defied the budget he has been working with to get his side challenging for promotion last season and now this campaign. He has managed to find a system that gets the very best out of his players and achieves consistent results in the English second tier which makes him one of the standout managers in the league.

Swansea were always going to find It difficult to hang on to Cooper if they do not earn promotion this term, with other sides understandably taking a look at the work he has been doing in Wales. It will be interesting to see if he feels the Sheffield United job would be one that would offer him more resources to get a side promoted.

Replacing Wilder at Sheffield United will be far from a simple task, but if he comes recommended by the former Blades boss then supporters will already be behind him straight away. Cooper has also got experience replacing a previously well-performing manager in the form of Potter at Swansea so you would back him to do well with the Yorkshire club.
