Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder could make a move on Everton to sign midfielder Kieran Dowell on a permanent basis.

The Toffees youngster has been with the Blades since January but returns to Goodison Park after helping United to promotion back to the Premier League with some vital goals and performances at Bramall Lane.

However, according to a report in the Daily Star via the Daily Mail, Blades manager Chris Wilder is keen on bringing Dowell back to the club on a permanent basis after being impressed with what he has seen from the youngster in the last few months.

Dowell scored the crucial winner at West Brom just a few months back which firmly set the Blades on their way to a run at the top two in the Championship, and with a first-team chance at Everton likely to be hard to come by, he could well fancy the move to Bramall Lane.

Along with Man United stopper Dean Henderson, Dowell is considered to be a top target for Wilder and his coaching staff in the summer, with the Sheffield United manager keen to keep the core group of players that have served him so well together in the top flight.

Wilder has this week released the likes of Paul Coutts and Martin Cranie, and will be keen to quickly add new players to the ranks following his team's impressive promotion campaign.

The Verdict

This makes plenty of sense for United and he would be a superb Premier League signing for the club.

The Blades need to keep that momentum going what has got them up and what better way to do so than to bring in players who already know the club and group.

Dowell can only go on and get better too, and he might be the ideal Mark Duffy replacement in the long run at Bramall Lane.
